Fans Expectations From French Open 2019
I asked some die-heart tennis fans about their expectations from Roland Garros 2018. Read below some interesting forecasts and wishes by them.
Des Roche, For Rafa Nadal to dominate yet again. His record on clay is astounding, and is by the far the most impressive record any athlete has on any surface across any sport.
Lee Loubser, from South Africa says, “On the ladies side of things, a very good contest, with a wide range of potential winners (unpredictable), with hopefully lots of coverage of the Caroline Wozniacki matches ;-P
On the men’s side, unfortunately the opposite applies. Unless Nadal suddenly picks up an injury, it is difficult to imagine anyone else going home with the trophy. There is a distinct lack of players stepping up to the next level to challenge the level that Nadal sets on clay. Dominic Thiem had looked promising in years past, but hasn’t progressed further.”
Dany Bravo, an amateur tennis player says, “I expect a tougher competition this year with strong performances from Nadal Thiem, Cilic, Del Petro in men’s singles, while Halep, Muguruza, Ostapenko and Svitolina will outclass their counter parts. Talking about the domination, I think Nadal will be the Clay King again and Halep can make it her 1st Grand Slam Title.”
Krishnan Subramanian from Kansas City expects “In Men’s singles, Rafa is the clear favorite. He’s steamrolling his opponents yet again. Unless he gets injured, there’s really no one to stop him. An 11th title on the cards. On women’s side, I’d say anyone in the top 10 but Caroline if Serena doesn’t recover her A-game.”
Nizamuddin Ameerally, a tennis player for 25 years says “Nadal should win Roland Garros for the 11th time. He is a dominant force in men’s tennis and is the reason he is numero uno, but not because of his loss in Madrid. I see very few players capable of beating him in a best 3 out of 5 sets. This includes Thiem. I think he is just too strong and fast.”
Alice Evans, a Murray fan, is with a view that “Defo Rafa for the men’s, but look out for Theim , Zverev and Sharapovalov. I’m not too sure about the women’s in theory I’d say Halep, but there seems to be a big block for her around G.S, and it often seems as if she’s never quite able to do enough. However I’d still have her as a favourite and say watch out for Garcia- had an amazing run of form last year and the French crowd will spur her on! Muguruza and one of the younger women : They may not win, but I expect an upset!”
I will be adding more views from the tennis fans and analysts. If you have some insights, personal views or big news, feel free to comment below or contact me to add up here.
