Mozilla Patches Critical Firefox Bugs and Vulnerabilities

With a usage share of about 30% worldwide, Firefox, a Mozilla web browser was held to be one of the most extensively browsers today. Firefox functions with the use of different operating systems. This includes GNU/Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows. Many other podiums are also being used by Firefox.

In the past months, Mozilla has confirmed that there has been vulnerability and bugs which were described to be critical in the Firefox’s newest version. There has been a Pwn2Own browser hacking contest; yet, the patch has not been added to it. The organizer of the said contest did not allow that the patch be made to Firefox and the researchers who joined the contest were not allowed to make use of the flaw. The vulnerabilities determined in the latest version of Firefox were acknowledged by Mozilla through a post in their blog. Firefox developers were the ones responsible for the fixing of the said vulnerabilities.

It has been reported that a Russian researcher in the name of Evgeny Legerov was the first one who announced about the bug on the latest Firefox. It is, but natural in these kinds of issue that some people question the motives of the said researcher who unveiled the Firefox’s flaw. Others have even thought of the announcement as a joke. As we all know, everything can be said and done using the internet. Good thing, in the long run, Legerov finally provided information which is sufficient enough for Mozilla to take into consideration of reproduction and investigation of the said issue.

Mozilla has patched Firefox versions 3.0 and Firefox 3.5. Firefox 4 has also been patched by the developers and they have dealt with a total number of 53 bugs for this version. The problems encountered and fixed by the developers of Mozilla include corruption bugs to memory. This problem would damage browser engine, if it was not fixed accordingly. In Firefox 3.6, a bug called the ‘dangling pointer’ was detected and was fixed. It is one kind of error in programming. This bug entails a problem to the pointer. The object being pointed by the memory reference stays on the go, even when not in use. Mozilla has also upgraded the 3.5 version.

Two bugs which were only found in Firefox 4 are associated to WebGLES, which is an extention to JavaScript. The WebGL enables developers to turn contents into 3D graphics. Fortunately, this was only used in Firefox 4 and was not used in other browser versions.

The version 4.0.1 of Mozilla Firefox which has been made public in April of this year is their stable release up to date. Third-party developers have generated extensions, enabling to add functions on the latest Firefox. Providing a wider selection to computer and internet patrons, this feature made users of Firefox to be all the more drawn with this browser of Mozilla.
