Instances of hacking have become so common these days that we almost read about it on a daily basis. The latest hacking incident to hit headlines is unfortunately called ‘Dancing Panda’. Unfortunately because, a Panda is usually associated with the lighter side of life, but in this particular scenario, the image of a dancing panda is anything but amusing, especially to the top US officials who were on the receiving end of the attack by Chinese hackers.

With the initial reports coming in, we have come to know that hackers from China were successful in accessing private e-mails of top US officials in 2010, and were reading their emails till now, reports NBC News.

The hackers targeted personal e-mail accounts of top government officials instead of their official ones due to high security measures applied on government e-mail accounts. Accounts of several key government officials, including top national security and trade officials in the Obama administration were targeted and their Gmail and other personal e-mail accounts were compromised.

There was another breach reported earlier where Russian hackers were initially blamed for targeting federal office of Personnel Management and accessing private data belonging to 21 million US citizens.

Later on, it was said that the hackers hailed from China. These hacking instances raise a valid question: if top US government officials are not safe from the hackers, then how protected and secure is a regular Joe?
