Faster Internet More Important Than Security for Brits!

Yet another survey highlights the risks people are willing to take just to connect to a free public Wi-Fi network. A recent survey by SecureAuth revealed that a whopping 71% of Brits prefer fast internet speed over online security.

Furthermore, three in five Brits have no problem sharing personally identifiable information (PII) over public Wi-Fi. 69% will provide their email address, but just one-fifth (20%) would give up their home address over the network. Whilst online, 49% will use the Internet for shopping purposes while 36% will use it to conduct banking transactions – both credit and debit.

More worrying is that 28% access work emails when connected to public Wi-Fi out and about. This not only exposes the individual, but also his company and his corporate clients to huge risks. Such problems can include stolen identities, damage to financial posture (such as the credit card information being accessed) and even data being held for ransom.

In 2015, there were more than 2,000 confirmed breaches and it’s estimated that 63% of those attacks leveraged stolen credentials.
