Following a Europe-wide trend, and going one-step ahead of the French government’s efforts to task copyright infringers, Austrian internet service providers have been given orders to block access to every file-sharing website on the internet. Along with the most visited file-sharing websites, there are many other file-sharing websites that will be blocked during the process, including P2P and some streaming websites.
The French government issued 4,897,883 initial warnings to copyright mongers between September 2010 and June 2015, but only 2,221 applications made it to the third stage. These 2,221 applications have now been referred to the public prosecutor since all the three stages have been completed. You can read the complete story here.
However, PureVPN users in Austria and France can still enjoy unrestricted access to the website of their choice with PureVPN’s superior service and add-ons.
Details of the Ban
The order was issued right before the weekend in Austria, following a copyright infringement complaint. The Court of Vienna quickly ordered local ISP ‘A1 Telekom’ and four other ISPs to block internet users from accessing copyright-infringing websites.
Since the court doesn’t ask the ISP to implement a certain kind of blockage, we are likely to see a country-wide DNS blocking, IP address blacklisting and even a combo of the two.
