Distractions can be annoying, especially when you are working at home. In this case, you can sometimes block a few websites temporarily so you can focus on a high-level task and get it over with.

Incognito doesn’t like extensions at all. If you wish to use BlockSite in incognito mode, you must change the settings first manually. You can use the below-mentioned steps to turn on BlockSite extension or any other extension in incognito within no time.

All you have to do is go to the Extensions tab, choose BlockSite > Gear icon > Settings > Enable in Incognito Mode.

This doesn’t work all the time so we have another option for you.

Step 1: Click on the puzzle icon, which means extensions, from the top-right corner of your computer screen and choose to Manage extensions

Step 2: Find the BlockSite tab and click on Details. Turn on the toggle for incognito mode, and now you can easily block the website you want to block in either mode.

Step 3: Now, you can switch to incognito and use the BlockSite tool.

How to Block a Website on Chrome Without an Extension

If you don’t feel comfortable using an extension, then there are other ways to block a nagging website. There are two simple ways to block websites if you are the Chrome Enterprise administrator of your computer.

Blocking Websites Editing the Hosts File (Windows)

  1. First, you have to open a file on your computer. Go to the C: drive > Windows > System32 > drivers > etc (full path: c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc).
  1. Open the host file via Notepad and you will see the following window.
  1. Now, add the websites you wish to block after the IP address. For instance, Keep adding websites after the # sign in the same order as we have mentioned here.

  1. Press CTRL+S to save the file and you are done.

If you have followed the steps carefully, you won’t access the blocked websites. To re-enable access to this website, remove the line from your host’s file. Note that you may need to reboot to have the changes take effect.

Blocking Websites Using Your Router (Mac & Windows)

The second way is to block website from your router’s configuration settings. We promise to keep the steps as simple as possible, so you don’t screw with the admin settings and block website too.

But there is a small caveat. If you block website via your WiFi router, all connected devices will lose access to particular websites. Does it matter? No. Then we shall proceed.

  1. Find your router’s IP address by typing and clicking on WiFi settings from the search menu, after the prompt, select hardware properties and note down your IPV4 address on a piece of paper.
  1. Type your IP address on the web browser to open another login prompt. Some of you may not have access to your router’s configuration settings, while others can type their login credentials.
  1. Once you enter the main dashboard, select the Security tab > Blocked site settings > add websites that you want to block.

How to Block a Website on Chrome via Mobile

You already know that using a mobile device is easier than a desktop computer. We will discuss how you can block websites using an iPhone or Android device. Both of these devices have different iOS and, therefore, different steps.

On an Android Device:

  1. Install the BlockSite app from the PlayStore. After that, click on Enable Accessibility and go through in-app options.

On an iOS (iPhone or iPad):

  1. Go to the Settings option on your iPhone. Select Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Content Restrictions.
  1. After that, choose Web Content > Limit Adult Websites > Add Website. You can now add multiple websites that you want to block.

Block them all…

We hope you can easily block websites no matter the devices you are using, be it an Android mobile device, iPhone, or desktop computer. Some websites contain malware and try to steal your data, and some don’t. So, it is better to ensure your device safety is your number one priority.
