Whether you’re blocking a site to enforce parental controls or you don’t want to indulge yourself with social sites as work, blocking a site requires a few steps. Learn how to block a website on Chrome, Chrome for Android, and Chrome for iOS devices.
How to Block a Website on Chrome Desktop
Add the “Block Site” Chrome extension to your browser.
The most convenient way to block websites is by installing the ‘Block Site’ Chrome browser extension.
Head over to the extension store and search for the ‘Block Site’ extension and select “Add to Chrome.”
Click “Add extension” in the pop-up box.
Several extensions block websites for you. Follow the same method of “Add to Chrome,” and a separate window will appear summarizing the extension’s main features.
Visit a website you want to block from then on.
Blocking a site is simple. Access the site you wish to block and on the extension, click the orange shield icon in the top right, and click “Block this site.”
That’s it; the website is successfully blocked. To unblock the site, click “Edit your list” in the top right (or click the icon, and then click “Edit block sites list”).
Each of your blocked websites will have a “minus” icon to the right — click that minus button, and your site will be unblocked.
How to Block Websites on Chrome Android (Mobile)
If you browse the web via Chrome on your Android device, blocking sites is a straightforward process.
Similar to how you use Block Site’s Chrome extension, the service is available on Google Play Store. Here’s how to block websites on your Android devices:
Download and install the “BlockSite” app
Head over to the Google Play Store and search for the ‘BlockSite’ application. Download and install the app on your Android device.
Open BlockSite app
Once the BlockSite app is installed on your Android device, tap the app’s icon.
Grant permissions to the app
A prompt message will appear requesting you to “Enable” the app in your phone’s settings to allow it to block websites. Give the app permissions to start blocking websites.
Tap the green “+” icon to start blocking sites
Once you’ve enabled the BlockSite app, head back to the app, and tap the green “+” icon on the bottom right-hand corner of your Android device. This will open a page where you can block either a website or a mobile app by entering the name of each into the search bar.
Confirm to block the site or the app
When accessing the blocked site, you’ll notice a green checkmark on the top-right hand corner of your screen. Just tap it, and you will successfully block this website.
How to Block Websites on iOS Devices (Mobile)
On iOS devices, you’ll mostly find paid options to block websites. However, there are free apps available, as well. The recommended apps are:
- Site Blocker: Site Blocker is a free app that lets you block websites on Safari on an iOS device. The app includes noticeable features such as a timer and suggestions as well.
- Zero Willpower: At a onetime cost of $1.99, Zero Willpower helps you block websites on Safari on an iOS device. The app offers a timer option where you can block a website for a limited duration.
