Kodi doesn’t allow its users to install any unofficial third-party add-ons by default anymore. While there are tons of useful add-ons officially available, users still fancy to try unofficial add-ons.
Some developers opt to release add-ons on their repository for improved control. As a result, users have to toggle on the “enable unknown sources” feature to get their hands on a specific add-on. However, one must also consider the potential risks associated with third-party add-ons.
While the Kodi ecosystem thrives on free and open source community, this freedom also leaves users vulnerable to cyberattacks.
Unofficial add-ons can pose security risks to your data and privacy since they come from unidentified sources. You could potentially be downloading a malware or virus disguised as a third-party add-on.
Majority of users rely on a good Kodi VPN to have a secure and uninterrupted streaming experience. Not only does a VPN encrypt the connection to secure users’ data, but it also hides their real IP from cyber snoopers.
It means that your browsing activities always stay hidden from all prying eyes, including your local internet service provider, who is notorious for ISP throttling.
Though Kodi doesn’t allow add-ons from unknown sources, it has made it easy for users to change the settings.
Step 1: Launch Kodi on your device
Step 2: Open the Settings MenuScroll up to the top-left of the screen and click on the ‘gear icon’ to open ‘settings.’
Step 3: Navigate to ‘System’ Once you enter the application's settings, open ‘system’ from the bottom right side of the screen.
Note: The option would appear as ‘system settings’ if you’re using a previous Kodi version.
Step 4: Navigate to ‘Add-ons’,Now, click on ‘add-ons’ from the sidebar on the screen’s left.
Step 5: Click on “Turn on Unknown Sources”Once you enable unknown resources, a warning message from Kodi will popup.
Click ‘yes’ to proceed. Just to be sure, double check of the toggle next to ‘unknown sources’ is on or not.
Step 6: Install any third-party add-onNow that you’ve enabled the feature, you are free to download and install any add-on of your choice available in third-party repositories. Just make sure that you use a Kodi VPN to avoid any of the risks discussed earlier.
