Cash App lets you easily transfer money to family, friends, and other contacts straight from your phone, much like Venmo. However, given that it’s linked to your bank account, you can’t just delete it from your phone like a normal app.

What is Cash App?

Cash App is a popular mobile payment service that allows you to send or receive money from others with your linked bank account. You can also request money from anyone in your contact list who uses Cash App. 

Furthermore, the app offers a Visa debit card (known as the Cash Card) as an optional feature, which enables you to use your Cash App funds and withdraw them from any ATM.

It’s free to open a Cash App account, and once you do, you’ll be assigned a username of your choice called a $Cashtag. With that username, you can send, receive, and request money anytime, anywhere.

How to delete your Cash App account

Transfer funds from your Cash App account

If you have any funds in your Cash App account, don’t forget to transfer it to your bank account before you continue. Follow the steps mentioned below:

• Open Cash App on your device and log into your account.
• Once you log in, you’ll see the main page. Tap the Banking icon in the bottom left corner.
• Tap the Cash Out button to transfer your Cash App balance to your linked bank account.

• Follow the instructions to complete the transfer and empty your Cash App funds.

Note: You must sell any stocks or bitcoin you own before you delete your Cash App account.

Delete your Cash App account

After you’re done emptying your Cash App account, you can finally delete it. Follow these steps:

• Go to the main page and tap the profile icon in the top right corner.
• Your profile page will appear. Tap Support.
• Scroll down to the bottom and choose Something Else from the list of common help options.

• Tap the Account Settings option at the bottom of the page.
• Select Close my Cash App Account in the Account Settings menu.
• Tap Confirm. This will sign you out of Cash App. You’re going to receive a text or email confirmation that you have successfully unlinked your account. Don’t delete the app until you get this email.

Your Cash App account should now be deactivated. If somebody tries to send you money, they’ll get an error message.

Remove Cash App from your phone

The only thing left to do now is delete Cash App from your device.

• On Android, you have various options to delete the app. The simplest way is to tap and hold the app and then choose Uninstall from the menu.
• On iOS, you can remove the app from your phone or through the App Store. Just long-press the app and tap Remove App from the menu.
