According to RandoriSec, a France-based cybersecurity company, Internet Protocol cameras, better known as IP cameras, have a built-in firmware that exposes the camera feed to remote attacks, meaning a hacker can remotely spy on you.
Cybersecurity researchers at RandoriSec revealed several critical and high-severity vulnerabilities in IP camera firmware. The standard firmware made by a South Korean company, UDP Technology, is used by many IP manufacturers across the globe.
Upon discovery, the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) immediately advised users regarding the risks posed by these vulnerabilities. The vulnerability already impacts 140 devices, mainly in the United States and the United Kingdom.
The vulnerability discovered can be used to hack targeted IP cameras via the internet remotely. The hacker could be sitting on a beach in Thailand while infiltrating IP cameras of homes in San Diego.
