How to Port Forward on a Linksys Router

PureVPN

You’re not the only one who’s figuring out how to port forward a Linksys router. Anyone with a Linksys router will find this guide to be helpful. As Linksys routers have an easy and user-friendly interface, it helps make the port forwarding experience all the more convenient.

Step 1 – Login to your router

The foremost step is to locate your router’s IP address. The convenient way is to use the command prompt.

To open the command prompt:

Here’s what you should get:

Now type ipconfig just after your devices’ name and press enter.

You’ll get a list of information (I can’t share mine for privacy reasons), all you have to do is scroll up or down until you find an entry that says Default Gateway. The default gateway is your router’s IP address.

Now that you have your router’s IP address, head over to Chrome or Firefox and type the Default Gateway number in the address bar and press Enter.

This will take you to your Linksys login page.

Step 2 – Find the Port Forwarding Section

Finding the port forwarding section won’t be difficult. Linksys routers these days have the port forwarding section right under the Security tab, located on the left of your screen.

Here’s how you get to the port forwarding section:

  1. Look around and find the Security tab located near the left-bottom of the screen.
  2. Click the Security tab.
  3. Click the Apps and Gaming tab which you can find at the top of the screen.
  4. Click the Port Range Forwarding link at the middle of the screen.
  5. Find and click the Add a new Port Range Forwarding button at the left of the screen.

You should see the following screen.

Step 3 – Create a Port Forwarding Entry

To give you an example, we are creating a forward for Xbox Live, which uses port 3074.
