With AI-powered platforms such as ChatGPT being all the rage these days, it is easy to forget that these advanced chatbots are much more than just your virtual assistants. While they can answer your questions and offer support with great efficiency and speed, it is important to remember that your digital companions possess a treasure trove of your personal information.

For example, ChatGPT stores everything from your log data to your chat history every time you log in to troubleshoot common issues and complete different tasks. However, if you are worried about online privacy, you can easily delete your ChatGPT account and safeguard your digital footprint by following a few simple steps.

What is ChatGPT?

Released in November 2022, ChatGPT is a revolutionary AI chatbot created by OpenAI, a San Francisco-based artificial intelligence research company. The powerful tool is trained to provide human-like responses to its users while answering their complex queries.

Moreover, ChatGPT is free to use, which is one of the primary reasons it took the world by storm. It was also dubbed one of the fastest-growing apps in the world, with around 13 million unique visitors per day in January 2023. A month later, OpenAI released the premium version of the viral chatbot, ChatGPT Plus, which costs around $20 a month.

While ChatGPT is an incredibly useful tool that allows you to create written content and complex codes in a matter of seconds, it also poses several privacy concerns. For starters, every conversation you have with the chatbot is collected and stored to further train the AI model. Secondly, there is no anonymity while using the platform, as users are required to enter their phone number at the time of creating an account for verification purposes.

If you are an EU citizen, you can request OpenAI to delete your data under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) by filling out this form. The “OpenAI Personal Data Removal Request” form asks users to provide accurate and detailed responses while making their requests.

Moreover, ChatGPT users can also restrict the AI model from using their data for training purposes by filling out the OpenAI User Content Opt Out Request form
