PUREVPNPress ReleaseUS Senate Voted Against Internet Privacy – PureVPN Interest Grows

The US Senate voted to repeal online data regulations that required telecom companies to seek permission before tracking users' online activities. Voting against former restrictions allows broadband providers the right to tap into your online search and browsing history and offer this information up to the highest bidder.

Hong Kong, China, March 24, 2017 (Newswire.com) –  The US Senate has now allowed ISPs and cellular carriers to track and log user data and share it with third-parties. This led to a substantial hike in traffic on PureVPN’s website by approximately 32% and shows no sign of letting. The 24/7 Customer Success team continues to address customer queries and concerns from the US region.

The previous surge in PureVPN traffic came at the back of a massive increase in user interest, particularly following the 2016 US Presidential elections. A second surge in user interest hails from the passing of the controversial FCC – Internet Privacy Bill. Internet users visiting the PureVPN’s website flooded the Live Chat feature on the website, seeking answers to their privacy-centric questions and concerns.

An alarming number of users have joined PureVPN's Live Chat asking how a VPN might help protect their online privacy. It only goes to show that people are waking up to their fundamental rights to privacy and freedom.

The new regulations narrowly passed the vote in the US Senate – by 50 votes to 48 – to repeal the Obama-era privacy regulations. According to the new regulations, ISPs can now sell user data to whoever they want to.

Speaking of the decision, Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell described the regulation as having created “an uneven playing field”, where its “complexity discourages competition, innovation and infrastructure investment”.
