Welcome to the very first issue of Dark Web Digest, our new bi-weekly series where we’ll explore all the latest happenings in the world of dark web threats and data breaches. Our goal is to keep you informed and help you stay one step ahead in protecting your personal information.

Let’s kick things off with a recent incident that’s been making waves: the VectraRx Mail Pharmacy Services data breach.

VectraRx Data Breach: What Happened?

In early February 2025, VectraRx Mail Pharmacy Services – a New York-based company known for delivering medications right to your doorstep, especially for work-related and personal injuries – announced a data breach that affected over 109,000 individuals.

They discovered some unusual activity in their computer systems back in December 2024 and, after digging deeper, found out that an unauthorized person had accessed sensitive information. This included names, birth dates, prescription details, service dates, and even Social Security numbers.

What Caused the VectraRx Mail Pharmacy Data Breach?

On December 13, 2024, VectraRx detected suspicious activity on one of its servers. In response, they teamed up with third-party cybersecurity experts to investigate the incident. The investigation revealed that unauthorized individuals had infiltrated their network, potentially accessing and copying files containing sensitive customer information.

By January 7, 2025, VectraRx had completed a thorough review to identify the compromised data and the individuals affected. The exposed information varied but often included names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, prescription details, and service dates. On February 6, 2025, VectraRx began notifying those impacted by the breach.

Why Should You Care?

This breach is a stark reminder that even companies we trust with our health information can be vulnerable to cyberattacks. Once stolen, personal and medical data often ends up on the dark web – a hidden part of the internet where cybercriminals buy and sell such information. This can lead to identity theft, financial fraud, and other nasty surprises.

How Can You Protect Yourself?

VectraRx is offering free credit monitoring and identity theft restoration services to those affected. But whether you’re directly impacted or not, it’s crucial to take proactive steps to safeguard your personal info.

To help with this, PureVPN has launched a free Dark Web Exposure Scan that lets you check if your email address has been compromised in any known data breaches. In less than 30 seconds, you can find out:

  • Breach Severity: How serious the breach is (High, Medium, or Low).
  • Recency of Exposure: How many days ago was your email found in a breach?
  • Number of Breaches Detected: Total count of breaches involving your email.

By using this tool, you can get a clear picture of your exposure and take necessary actions to protect yourself.

Looking Ahead

As we continue to navigate our digital lives, staying informed and vigilant is our best defense against cyber threats. In upcoming issues of “Dark Web Intelligence,” we’ll dive deeper into recent incidents, share trends, and offer expert advice on cybersecurity. Stay tuned!

Stay safe, stay informed.
