Port forwarding on PLDT depends on the type of connection you have. If your router gets a public IPv4 address, a normal forwarding rule can work. If the connection is behind CGNAT, the rule can be correct and the port can still stay unreachable from the internet.
Before you start changing ports on the router, confirm which type of connection you have. If CGNAT is not an issue, you can forward ports through your PLDT router. You can also manage them through PureVPN without changing router settings, including on CGNAT connections.

How to Port Forward on a PLDT Router
PLDT uses different modem and router models, so the exact menu names can vary. The steps below focus on the settings you need to find:
Step #1: Log In to Your PLDT Router
Connect to your PLDT network and open 192.168.1.1 in any browser. Enter your router credentials to access the admin dashboard. If you changed the default credentials earlier, use the current ones.

Step #2: Find Your Device’s Local IP Address
Find the local IP address of the device you want to receive incoming traffic, such as your PC, console, or NAS. The port forwarding rule needs this address to send the traffic to the right device. Keeping the same local IP prevents the rule from pointing to the wrong device later.
Step #3: Find the Port You Need to Forward
Check which port and protocol the application or service uses for incoming connections. You can usually find these details in the app’s network settings or support documentation. Make sure the forwarding rule uses the same values, otherwise the traffic will not reach the right service.
Step #4: Find the Port Forwarding Settings
Open the router’s advanced or NAT settings and look for Port Forwarding, Port Mapping, Virtual Server, or a similar option. The wording and location depend on your PLDT router model, so you may need to check more than one network or NAT menu.
Step #5: Create the Port Forwarding Rule
Enter the local IP address of the device, the required port, and the protocol used by the application or service. If the router asks for internal and external ports, enter the values required for the connection. Give the rule a name if required, then enable it.
Step #6: Save and Test the Port
Save or apply the rule, then keep the application or service running while you test whether the port is reachable from outside your network. If the rule is correct but the port still shows as closed, CGNAT or another part of the network path may be preventing the inbound connection.
What to Do If Your PLDT Connection Uses CGNAT
If your PLDT connection is behind CGNAT, changing the forwarding rule on the router will not fix the missing public inbound path. You will need to change how that traffic reaches your network, so here are some ways to achieve that:
Ask PLDT About a Public IPv4 Address
Contact PLDT and ask whether a public IPv4 address or removal from CGNAT is available for your account or plan. PLDT does not publish a blanket residential policy for this, so availability needs to be confirmed directly with support. PLDT currently provides assistance through PLDT Cares and its official support channels.
If PLDT can provide a publicly reachable IPv4 address, you can use the normal router port forwarding steps above. The address does not have to be a static one for port forwarding itself to work.
Use a Port Forwarding VPN
A port forwarding VPN can give incoming traffic another way to reach your device. Instead of opening the port through PLDT, it is opened through the VPN connection and traffic is sent to your device from there.
However, the VPN provider needs to support port forwarding for this to work. PureVPN offers a Port Forwarding add-on, and we will show you how to use it to overcome CGNAT on PLDT in the next section.

Open Ports on PLDT with PureVPN
PureVPN lets you open ports without changing router settings, even on connections affected by CGNAT. Here’s how to do it:
- Add Port Forwarding to Your Account: Sign in to the PureVPN Member Area, open Subscriptions, and find Port Forwarding. Select Get This Add-on (if you do not have it already), then confirm the order to add it to your subscription.
- Select the Ports You Want to Open: Select Configure next to Port Forwarding. You can allow all ports, block all ports, or open specific ports. Choose the option you need and enter the required port numbers.
- Save the Port Forwarding Policy: Select Apply Settings once you have finished choosing the ports. PureVPN will save the policy to your account so it can be used when you connect through a supported location.
- Connect to a PF-Supported Location: Open the PureVPN app and connect to a server that supports Port Forwarding. For easy identification, supported locations are marked with the PF tag.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, PLDT routers can support port forwarding. However, the port will only be reachable from the internet if your connection has a public IPv4 address. If your PLDT connection is behind CGNAT, a router rule alone will not be enough.
Some PLDT connections use CGNAT, while others may have a public IPv4 address. The easiest way to know which applies to you is to compare the WAN IP on your router with your public IP address.
You can contact PLDT and ask whether CGNAT removal or a public IPv4 address is available for your account. Availability depends on your plan and what PLDT currently offers for your connection.
No. You need a publicly reachable IPv4 address, but it does not have to be static. A dynamic public IP can still support port forwarding, although the address may change over time.
CGNAT is only one possible reason a port stays closed. Check that the forwarding rule uses the correct port and protocol, points to the right local IP, and that the service is running and allowed through the device firewall.
