How to Setup a VPN on Ubuntu (PPTP)

1. Hit the Network Connection icon
2. Click VPN Connections and then select Configure VPN
3. After that click Add
4. Now from the drop-down menu, select Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP)
5. Click Create
6. Do the following:
   1. Type Connection name “PureVPN PPTP”
   2. Enter the desired server in Gateway

Note: Download and install the package for your respective Ubuntu version.

5. Now follow these steps:

1. Click Dash and type Terminal to search and open it
2. Insert command:
   1. sudo apt-get install network-manager-openvpn
   2. and click Enter

   1. sudo apt-get install network-manager-openvpn
   2. sudo apt-get install network-manager-openvpn-gnome
5. Close Terminal once the installation is complete
6. Download OpenVPN file (required) and extract it

8. Click VPN Connections and go to Configure VPN
9. Click Add
10. From the drop-down, select OpenVPN
11. Click Create
12. Do the following:

    3. Enter Username and Password
    4. Click the folder icon from CA Certificate
13. Open the OpenVPN downloaded folder
14. Select ca.crt to Open it and click Advanced
15. In the General tab, check the following
    1. Use custom gateway port: For UDP insert 53 and For TCP insert 80
    2. Use LZO data compression
    3. For TCP connection select “Use a TCP connection” (If required)
16. In the Security tab:
    1. From Cipher: Select AES-256-CBC or desired encryption
    2. From HMAC Authentication: Select SHA-1
17. In the TLS Authentication tab:
    1. Choose Use additional TLS authentication
    2. Click folder icon next to Key File
18. From the OpenVPN downloaded folder, select Wdc.key to Open it
19. Do the following:
    1. Select “1” from Key Direction
    2. Hit OK
20. Click Save
21. Close the window
22. Now click again Network Connection
23. Click the VPN Connections
