How To Setup VPN for Roku

Roku is a popular streaming player that lets you access US-based on-demand streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, Amazon and such alike on your TV sets using the internet. Unfortunately, the service works for US residents only. However, if you install a VPN on Roku, you can access all these channels from anywhere outside the USA using our USA VPN service.

Roku is a clientless device with no VPN client inbuilt within it. To connect a VPN on Roku, you first need to connect a VPN router with it using Wi-Fi connection. It sounds a little tough to carry out the job for people with less technical knowledge. Well, to make it work for you, here is the simple guide to connect the Roku to VPN router and then connect it to watch Netflix.

Why Use PureVPN on Roku Device

Configuring your Roku device with PureVPN is the best thing you can do to safeguard your privacy and experience true online freedom. With PureVPN installed on Roku, you can access any content that is restricted in your region, in just a matter of seconds.

The best part about using PureVPN on Roku is that it makes you completely invisible online. When you connect to PureVPN, your online activity becomes encrypted, making it impossible for your ISP to track your online sessions and throttle them when you are constantly streaming from restricted servers. This ensures that your streaming experience remains buffer-free and enjoyable at all times.

Without PureVPN on your Roku device, there are many problems that you can end up in. For starters, a malicious cybercriminal can gain entry into your network and infect your Roku device with a malware. Now, what a malware can do to your data depends on what the cyber criminals wants out of your online activity. But to say the least, malwares of such sort are used to access microphones on your smartphone and cameras on your laptop screens to keep an eye on you at all times. Simply put, a malware infected Roku is an enemy of your privacy.

It’s only wise to use PureVPN with Roku. That’s the only way you can retain control of your privacy.

From your instructions re: “Connect router with Roku” . I live in Canada and want to connect to US Roku.
“1. Restart your Router and connect with PureVPN US IP.” Do I infer that when I select a VPN server I select one from the US list.
“2. Now, visit and choose your residing country as the USA.” Understood
“3. US zip codes have 5 digits and you need to compose a zip code of 5 digits from your own zip code
related to your credit card. Here is an example: My zip code is 1711 and my new “US” zip code is 01711.”

My Postal code is V8L5A6 How does that convert to a US zip code? 00856 is not recognized as a valid code. What does it mean to “compose a code related to your credit card”?
Thanks for any clarification you can provide.

      1. Yes, you need to connect to a US server because Roku is a US-based service. If you want to watch Netflix, Hulu or any other US-based website, you will need to first connect to a US server.
      2. For the zip code problem, try the following 4 zip codes:

      Zip Code:85749

      Zip Code:92660

      Zip Code:98277

      Zip Code:65583

I have a UK roku box – I do not want to mess around with my existing router so was planning on connecting it to a separate one – how do I connect the 2 routers?

    • PureVPN says:

First, Connect Ethernet cable from First router Lan to Second (VPN) router Wan then connect Roku / System to the VPN router via Ethernet or via Wireless. Rest of the process for connecting VPN on Roku will remain same. Once VPN is setup on the Router, you can access it on Roku as well.

What if I’m already in the United States and just want to change locations to fool geolocating baseball games. My credit card zip code is not where I want Roku to think I’m at (Denver area). I want to watch Rockies game (only when they play LA) but they are blacked out here. I’m an LA native stranded in Colorado

  4. Juanito says:

If you do not have access to the router, then you can configure VPN using our Hotspot feature which is available in our windows app. You can create Hotspot on our windows software and connect it to Roku Box.
